CIS STOP Officers spend a considerable amount of time gathering intelligence on known and suspected drug dealers, gang members, and other undesirable elements. Though much of this intelligence is collected prior to deployment, information sources among residents and local children are cultivated immediately once the team arrives on-site.
In some cases, CIS employs undercover operatives to gather criminal intelligence to support STOP Team deployments. On left is a photo of a plainclothes CIS officer with a weapon recovered in the woods near a CIS protected community.
Much of the focus of STOP operations is on disrupting drug trafficking and sales in CIS protected communities. Effectively interrupting the cycle of drug sales requires driving a wedge between the buyer, the dealer, and the community. To accomplish this, we use a variety of tactics. To pressure the buyers, we use a combination of overt surveillance, trespassing, and psychological pressure. To target the dealers, we use conspicuous presence, surveillance, and establish probable cause for law enforcement arrest.

The work of CIS officers has led to countless drug sezures and arrests.

The image below is of a gun in a car that was witnessed in plain sight by a CIS officer during an intervention. This provided the probable cause necessary for police to search the car and discover a stash of drugs.
