CIS Assists United Women Singapore’s GenSafe Workplaces Program

On January 19, S2 had the honor of participating as speakers for United Women Singapore’s GenSafe Workplaces program. The one-hour program was designed to educate participants on strategies and practices for reducing risks of workplace violence and managing threatening behavior in the workplace.

United Women Singapore (UWS) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing women’s empowerment and gender equality, and building a pipeline of women leaders and influencers in Singapore. The organisation works towards narrowing the gender equality gap through education and raising awareness and advocacy on issues such as anti-violence and women’s empowerment, with the support of key stakeholders including corporate partners, government agencies, academia, the diplomatic community, non-profits and community groups and the wider community.

Active Shooter Planning for City & County Managers

In response to the May 2019 mass shooting at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center, CIS consultants were invited by the Florida City and County Manager’s Association (FCCMA) to present a special seminar about security planning and facility preparation for managing active shooter risk. This one-hour presentation spotlighted physical security vulnerabilities common in government buildings and solutions for reducing risk during armed attack events.

The program was conducted as part of FCCMA’s fall program themed “What keeps managers awake at night,” and was attended by county and city managers from over two dozen Florida municipalities.

The seminar explored a diverse range of topics related to active shooter planning for municipal buildings including performance-based physical security concepts, barrier specification, secure lobby design, safe refuge rooms, access control planning, egress design, and emergency communications infrastructure.

The program was presented by Craig Gundry, CIS Vice President of Special Projects and a board-certified Physical Security Professional®. As a security consultant, Mr. Gundry has assisted government organizations around the world in managing risks of workplace aggression and active shooter violence. He is also a lead instructor for the S2 Safety & Intelligence Institute and has trained over 3,500 professionals in anti-terrorism and advanced security topics.

Craig Gundry is the Vice President of Special Projects for Critical Intervention Services and an instructor on advanced security topics for the S2 Institute. As a consultant, Mr. Gundry specializes in managing risks of mass homicide (e.g., terrorism, active shooter violence, etc.) and has assisted clients around the world in improving their security and emergency readiness programs.

Chem-Bio Terrorism Workshop at 2019 ASIS Europe

Although terrorist groups in Afghanistan and Iraq have employed crude chem-bio agents in numerous attacks over the past 15 years, recent attack plots interrupted in Italy, Australia, and Germany have resurrected international concern about CB terrorism. Furthermore, challenges experienced in the aftermath of the Skripal and Jong-nam assassinations underscore the difficulty faced by public safety and security professionals in responding to chem-bio incidents. Recognizing a potential trend in emerging in these events, multiple European governments have elevated threat warnings about chem-bio terrorism.

On Thursday, 28 March 2019, CIS Vice President of Special Projects Craig Gundry presented a leadership workshop on managing risks of chemical and biological (CB) attacks as specifically applied to security professionals at the 2019 ASIS Europe conference in Rotterdam.This 90 minute workshop explored a diverse range of issues associated with chem-bio terrorism including an examination of previous attacks, diverse facility attack scenarios, risk management strategy, and practical measures for preventing and responding to chemical and biological attacks in a workplace environment.

Much of the information presented in the ASIS Rotterdam seminar was derived from Mr. Gundry’s Anti-Terrorism Officer (ATO) and CB Terrorism for Security Professionals courses. Since 2003, Mr. Gundry has trained over 3,500 security and public safety professionals in advanced measures for protecting facilities and responding to chemical and biological attacks.
