S2 Orlando Teams Up With CFRPC
Submitted by: Adam Clarke, Director of Threat Management

S2 Safety and Intelligence Institute in Orlando has developed a new relationship with the Central Florida Rifle and Pistol Club (CFRPC). This relationship has resulted in a new venue for S2's firearm courses. S2 held the first class at the facility on Sunday, April 21st. Instructor Dennis Lupton worked with a group made up of students attempting their "G" license for the first time and others who were requalifying. S2 will be offering other firearms classes at CFRPC in the near future such as the concealed weapons and advanced firearms courses, as well as rifle and shotgun programs. S2 also offers a variety of classes that may interest the general public, including CPR/AED and First Aid training. Upcoming classes for both the Orlando and Tampa Bay areas are posted on the S2 website and Facebook page. Classes are currently being added, please check back if you can't find a class currently listed in your area or feel free to contact S2 by phone with any questions (727) 461-0066.

Thoughts about Summer
Submitted by: Mark E. Puetz, Director of Risk Management and Professional Standards

In preparing this month's article, I found myself suffering from writer's block. Those who work alongside me, those who read my various internal documents or notes might find that surprising, but it does happen from time to time. Usually, I select a topic based on some issue or challenge someone, or some business, I know may be facing. Of course, the names are changed to protect the innocent and no animals are ever harmed in the production. No such luck this month. Well, until ...

I started thinking about how I select my topics and wondered if there were any other methods I might try. Even though launching from a current challenge works and will continue to be used, could I be more creative in my topic selection process? I thought about taking a known topic and looking at it from another perspective, perhaps from a contrary position. I thought about taking a known topic and changing some of the key elements to see where that may lead. I thought about taking a few topics and throwing them into the same pot, so to speak, to see what comes out. Here's where that last approach took me.

Topic I: Summer is coming

With the warmer months we tend to see increases in activity. More people are out and about. This brings more opportunities for all sorts of mischief, whether intentional criminal or nuisance activity or just more accidents and mishaps. Indeed, more juveniles are out and about, and some of them are looking specifically for mischief. Now is a good time to get ahead of all of that and review policies and practices to ensure they are up to speed and prepared to address what may come.
