To effectively address the security needs of residential communities, CIS pioneered a methodology called the Community & Character Based Protection Initiative (CCBPI). This unique approach builds relationships and trust between CIS officers and residents as a way to reduce and prevent crime. Recognized internationally for its effectiveness, CCBPI follows three phases customized for your particular needs. From STOP Team officers cleaning up high crime environments, to officers hosting unifying community events, the innovative strategies used by CIS make residents feel safe and in control of their communities.
In addition to the short-term results of reduced crime, the CCBPI approach lays the foundation for sustained community growth. Residents in CIS protected communities take stock in their environment and recognize the value of keeping the property clean and organized. CIS officers also serve as positive role models for children and help reinforce community values. In addition to the social benefits of CIS protection, these effects have a direct impact on the bottom line--usually resulting in a dramatic increase in occupancy and decreased tenant turnover.

Community and Character Based Protection Initiative (CCBPI)
CCBPI is a holistic approach to reducing crime and restoring order in community environments. The underlying philosophy of CCBPI is twofold. First, external sources of crime and community predation are removed. This process is referred to as Proactive Intervention. Second, organization within the community is restored and the seeds are sewn for long-term community growth. This process is referred to as Preventative Interaction.
Practical implementation of CCBPI follows three phases:
Phase One: Reclamation - During Phase One, specially-trained CIS officers employ a strategy called Symmetry Targeted Oriented Patrolling (STOP) to root out visible criminal activity and re-establish control of the environment. The intensity of STOP operations during Phase One varies depending on the state of the community.
Phase Two: Networking - Once the community is clear of outside criminal influences, CIS officers work on establishing communication with residents and building trust within the community.
Phase Three: Anchoring - Once trust is established, CIS officers focus on anchoring relationships within families and long-term community growth.
Success of the CCBPI Approach
Since the methodology was first developed in 1993, Critical Intervention Services has implemented the CCBPI approach in hundreds of communities. The success of CCBPI programs is demonstrated by the numerous CIS-protected communities that have reported dramatic decreases in criminal activity and significant improvements in resident morale.
